I thought it might be a nice idea to have a general thread where you say what you are studying for in the OU

Myself, I'm studying mainly for the sake of learning something new and broadening my horizons though at this stage I am going to finish a degree by doing a couple of 3rd level courses (this is to appease my partner who doesn't believe in non-concrete outcomes Wink)

Then once that has finished I will be going back to study literature, possibly with the classics thrown in for good measure

I also study just out of personal interest.

I am currently concentrating on mathematics, as I have an interest in astronomy and astrophysics, so I need to know the maths before doing the level 2 and 3 courses.

I'm not content with discovery channel level cosmology, so I need to put myself through the pain of pure mathematics to progress Laughing

I don't believe I have the commitment to follow through to research level but I'd like to think it is a possibilty eventually. (Perhaps with the OU)

I probs have the credits to get the general degree, but I see no sense in that, as most of my credits are made up of credit transfer from previous study, stuff I forgot years ago :-)

Hi all!

I’m studying for interest, really. I have done some for work; java courses, mainly, I’m in IT.

But I’m a serial student. I love studying, but hate TMAs! Laughing

When studying as a hobby, my interests lie in the Humanities, particularly literature (specifically, the novel), but I’m addicted to the little 10 point level 1 courses. I can’t get enough of them! I’d be very interested in studying 10-20 point level 2 courses, as well.

Well, it was originally because there was so much choice and an interest to pass the evenings away. And then I started thinking about possibly changing career.

It's also highly addictive because there's such a great range of topics...
Instead of torturing myself when I go bag shopping, I can now torture myself with "what course should I do next ... decisions, decision".

In the beginning I wanted a degree to prove to all those naysayers from school - and to prove to myself - that I was capable of it. Well, I've done that now, having been to full time uni and got my degree.

After graduating, I took up music and did a GCSE before going on to do the Dip Mus. After that, I figured I might as well just keep on going for another degree, doing just what I liked - hence some creative writing, photography and IT, and next I plan on doing a bit of archaeology and business studies.

I guess I'll carry on when all that's done, too.
